Product Description

Common Heather purple bud-blooming

Purple Common Heather is a plant that brings a strong, deep colour to the garden at a time when other plants are slowly losing their summer splendour. When autumn weather begins to dominate, bud-blooming heather starts to delight with its beauty. It is a shrub whose flowers remain in the bud stage, thanks to which they last for many weeks regardless of the unfavourable weather conditions typical of autumn weather.

Heather characteristics

Purple heather is a plant with a characteristic appearance. It has stiff and upright shoots, thanks to which it grows in a compact, columnar form. In autumn, the shoots become densely covered with buds in shades of deep purple. The inflorescences remain in the bud stage, thanks to which their colour does not fade or lose its charm until late autumn. The shrub grows to approximately 25-35 cm in height, forming compact clumps. Heather is often used in gardens thanks to its evergreen leaves - it is a plant that decorates the garden even on gloomy winter days.

A plant for beginners

One of the greatest advantages of heather plants is that they are easy to grow. Heather plants do not require experience or complicated care, and with little effort they will decorate the garden for many years.

The most important cultivation rules:

  • Position - above all, it must be sunny, because the amount of sunlight determines the intensity of the colour; the more sun there is, the more eye-catching the colour becomes.
  • Soil - the substrate should be acidic, light and well-drained. For beginner gardeners, the best choice will be universal soil for heather plants.
  • Watering - it must be regular, especially when dealing with young plants. Older plants are resistant to slight drying out. When growing in pots, proper drainage should be ensured to prevent waterlogging.
  • Pruning - the most important care step - at the turn of March and April, 1/3 of the length of the shoots should be cut back; this treatment will stimulate the plant to branch and will also allow the best effect to be achieved during the flowering of the shrub.

Is purple heather a plant for every garden?

Common bud-blooming heather with purple colouring is a versatile plant that allows you to enjoy the colours of nature in any, even the smallest space. It works perfectly as a decoration for a balcony or terrace and as an addition to flower beds. It combines beautifully with ornamental grasses and other colourful shrubs. This variety is most often used for group plantings, creating small heather gardens around the home.
